About Us

At Valor & Honor Outdoors, we’re more than just an outdoor nonprofit—we’re a community committed to honoring service members, veterans, first responders, and their families through life-changing outdoor adventures.

With a focus on meaningful connections, zero-cost experiences, and an all-volunteer staff, we create lasting memories that heal, inspire, and unite.

Our Mission

To honor and support those who serve and have served by providing exceptional outdoor experiences that foster physical and mental well-being, strengthen family bonds, and create lasting memories. Through hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities, we strive to give back to our heroes with the respite, camaraderie, and care they deserve.”

Our Vision

Provide opportunities to military service members, veterans, and first responders, and their families where they may find healing, camaraderie, and renewal through the power of the great outdoors.

Our Core Values

1

Honor & Service

We recognize the sacrifices of our military personnel, first responders, and their families, and are dedicated to giving back through meaningful outdoor experiences.

2

Camaraderie & Community

We foster a strong sense of belonging and support among participants, volunteers, and families. We want to offer experiences that harken back to the same bonds forged in “team rooms,” “squad bays,” and “roll calls.”

3

Healing & Well-being

We believe in the restorative power of nature and the bonds built in the outdoors to improve mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health.

4

Integrity & Stewardship

We operate with honesty, transparency, and a deep respect for both the people we serve and the outdoor resources we enjoy.

5

Volunteer-Driven Passion

Our programs are powered entirely by volunteers, many who are past VHO participants that share a commitment to honoring our heroes through action.

Our Testimonials

From unforgettable outdoor experiences to the emotional connections forged, these stories inspire us to continue our mission of honoring and supporting our military heroes.

VHO made us slow down and sent our family to the coast of NC where we were able to see bears in the wild and spent a day with a local family on their boat tubing. To this day, these are some of the best memories my kids have with us. It brings tears to my eyes writing this because it was so nice going on this trip and not worrying how it would be paid for. We didn't think about work, bills, or anything other than just spending time with our kids.

I've had the wonderful opportunity to participate in VHO duck hunts in Arkansas the last two years. The trips, though different, left me a better man than I came, with a heart full of brotherhood and shared service. The relaxing fellowship we were able to experience in the woods hunting, on the couch in the cabin, or in cars together is the kind of cathartic salve we Veterans and active Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines need to help remind us why we serve.

Navy SEAL Veteran

While some people search and find VHO, in my case VHO found me. I’m not sure where I’d be without Col. Lewis and VHO but I do know I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am without them. I’ve been a first responder for going on 14 years now and just driving down the road can be an incredibly difficult and painful thing to do. I’m constantly reminded of the vehicle accidents, structure fires, drownings etc. as I vividly remember every detail about the sights, sounds and smells. I’ve known Col. Lewis for years and hunted with him many times, but when he brought me into the VHO family something changed in me. Just getting out in the woods is a healing opportunity for me and getting out with Col. Lewis and the guys is my therapy.

Active First Responder

I’ve been selected for a couple of organizations to go hunting, and once at the location, I was just told to go here or there and there wasn’t any conversation or fellowship. It was a number thing. VHO provided free hunting clothes from head to toe and their staff was engaged, start to finish. VHO is different.

Valor and Honor Outdoors is not only a group of veterans putting on great opportunities but an atmosphere of high morals and mentorship. Attending the Valor and Honor turkey hunt was an opportunity that I will never forget. During my experience I spent time hunting with great people and sharing stories about our experiences in the military.

I recently participated in a turkey hunt organized by Valor & Honor Outdoors and it was undoubtedly the best hunting experience of my life. This trip provided a unique mix of camaraderie and excellent hunting that was truly special.

I am truly honored to be a part of the experience, and I was overwhelmed by generosity throughout the weekend. I came out of it a better hunter and incredibly thankful that organizations like Valor and Honor Outdoors exist.

I cannot even begin to express how amazing Valor & Honor Outdoors has been. My first experience with VHO was a few months prior to my deployment to the Middle East. My 2 children are 4 and 5, and they absolutely love fishing. We spent the entire day on the boat with one of VHO’s volunteers. The smiles on their faces reeling in big catches are the type that make hearts melt. It was a day of beautiful views, great fishing and lots of laughter.

My children and I had the roughest year of our lives starting the day after I returned from deployment. VHO brought tears to my eyes when they surprised us with our trip. My children and I made many core memories and had the best time getting away from the difficult year we had faced.

I went into the experience simply expecting some relaxing time in the woods but got so much more. By the time we left, I had recharged mentally and spiritually and had a completely new support system with friendships that I’m sure will last a lifetime.

After a very challenging year with a deployment, my mother getting sick, and what I felt like insurmountable stress, I was struggling to stay spiritually on track. From the minute I showed up at camp and met Mike, I felt instant brotherhood and belonging. After only a couple days, the stress I had been dealing with for the past year just disappeared and a very clear way ahead appeared to me.

The Valor and Honor Elk Hunt was an awesome trip with some great VHO representatives as our hosts. Jason and Justin made our experience unforgettable and having the privilege and opportunity to be in the mountains of Colorado was an experience I will cherish.

I had a crazy week leading up to my hunt, it started by finding out my grandfather had passed away, then I worked a bunch of over time. The time in the deer woods gave me some time to just sit with God and think about my grandpa. It was much needed.

After being a participant for years, I came onboard as a VHO staff member, and it has been very fulfilling being able to facilitate VHO experiences for others. I am so thankful for the opportunities VHO provided for me as a participant, and now I am thankful for the opportunity to give back as a Field Staff volunteer!
